What is Labiaplasty?
Did you know that labiaplasty is the fastest growing cosmetic procedure in the world? In some countries it is the most popular cosmetic procedure compared to all other cosmetic procedures. Women chose to get a labiaplasty done for a variety of reasons. The reduction of the labia minora or “small lips” of the vulva is most commonly done because the tissue is redundant and tends to pull on clothing or causes discomforts due to dragging/pulling with sexual intercourse. Other reasons include asymmetry where one side is larger or longer than the other. Many women dislike the appearance of the lips protruding beyond the labia majora or outer larger lips. The appearance through clothing may also be disturbing to some women and changing the appearance builds confidence for many women reluctant to wear certain types of bathing suits or tight clothing.
What are the Different Labiaplasty Procedures?
During consultation the decision to perform one of three types of labiaplasty procedures is made.
- Wedge reduction
- Border reduction
This choice is based on the individual needs and desires of the patient.
A clitoral hood reduction may also be discussed as often there is redundant tissue on surrounding the clitoris which can reduce sexual sensation and pleasure. Dr. Eisenberg may offer correction of incontinence problems which could be done at the same time and often allow some insurance benefits.
Dr. Eisenberg is extremely meticulous with his labiaplasty surgical technique providing a very natural and unaltered appearance. He has the highest concern for his patients satisfaction.
